Poison Spyder's SpyderShell Armor Coat has been engineered to provide your Poison Spyder product with years of unmatched great looks, corrosion protection and weather-resistance. Our proprietary 6-stage system starts with media blasting the entire part, to remove contaminents and prep the metal surface for the best possible adhesion. Next, any seams are sealed with 3M Scotch-Weld to block moisture from entering and causing corrosion where the powder can not reach. The first coat to be applied is a zinc-rich powdered black primer, which is baked on to form an impenetrable bond between the metal product and the coating. The primer is black--rather than traditional gray--so that any rock chips or trail damage are less conspicuous. The final top coat is an industrial grade, "super-durable" architectural finish in semi-gloss black, which is engineered to retain its appearance through years of exposure to sun and weather. SpyderShell is a coating process unmatched by any other Jeep armor aftermarket manufacturer, for which we are confident in offering a 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship.

About SpyderShell™ Armor Coat
As with most professional jobs, the prep work is critical. The SpyderShell process begins with comprehensive media blasting of the Poison Spyder product, inside and out. Media blasting strips away any oils, contaminants or residues left over from the manufacturing process. It even removes laser scale and breaks the sharp edges of laser-cut parts, an area where many typical powder coat jobs first begin to fail. But most importantly it leaves a perfectly prepared surface of evenly roughed, newly exposed metal, perfect for forming the strongest possible bond between the metal and primer.
Prep continues with the application of 3M electrically conductive sealant, carefully applied along joints or seams where metal parts meet. This process seals off these tiny spaces to keep moisture and corrosion from occurring where the powder coat layers can not reach. The sealant itself accepts electrically charged powder coat particles just like the metal around it, and cures under heat along with the powder coat, so its invisible in the finished part.
Most common powder coated products receive a single layer of powder that has to perform all of the coating functions: adherence to the product, corrosion resistance, the desired color and texture, and long-lasting appearance despite long-term exposure to weather and UV rays. No single product can perform all of these perfectly, so premium quality coating processes use a primer layer as well as a top layer, with each engineered to perform its specific functions better than any single product is able to. SpyderShell's first coat is a zinc-rich powder coat primer, which is engineered to create the strongest bond between itself and the prepared metal surface. Even when the bumper is gouged on a rock, down to bare metal, it is the strength of the bond between the primer coat and the metal, that keeps moisture from penetrating and rust from forming past the edge of the scar, underneath un-damaged coating next to it. And in the event the bumper or armor does see some rock rash or a chip in the color layer from hard use, the primer layer is also black so that it won't stick out like a sore thumb if exposed.
SpyderShell's top coat is of course the color layer. But more than that, we've specified an industrial, "super-durable" semi-gloss black color coat. This product was developed for architectural use, designed to withstand constant exposure to the sun and weather for years. With proper care and regular cleaning, SpyderShell will maintain its color and semi-gloss finish for years.
The final stage in the SpyderShell process is packaging, to ensure each piece of armor arrives at your door in pristine condition. CAD-engineering packaging and impact-resistant inserts cradle the product. SpyderShell carries a 5-year warranty on materials and workmanship, covering any issues to the finish caused by time or exposure to the elements.
Media Blast - to remove all manufacturing residues, oils, etc., and to prepare the metal surface for maximum adhesion of primer coat
Seam Seal - 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive to fill any un-welded seams. Powder adheres to the sealant, making sure moisture can not enter these areas and cause rust.
Coat 1: Zinc Rich Primer - contains the properties for creating the best possible bond with the metal surface, and providing the best substrate for applying the color coat. Zinc rich primer helps deter corrosion. Even where the item has been scratched through to bare metal, it is the primer's job to ensure that moisture and corrosion does not spread from the exposed metal scar, to under the adjacent un-scarred finish. Black primer is used so that any chips or scratches in the top coat due to wear and tear are less noticeable.
